Durbrow Performance August Client of the Month: Tina De La Cruz

What is your hometown?

Somerville.

What brought you to DPT?

I was tired of looking out my window and seeing everyone leave the gym “with that look on their face.” It’s hard to explain, but I wanted to have that look as well.

How long have you been training with us?

2 years this month.

What do you do in the “real world?” (job, family, pets, etc)

Besides being the best mom EVA to two little girls that are growing way too fast, I work as a Project Director at Lesley University.

What is one fun fact that most people don’t know about you?

I dabble in creative writing. In storytelling I love the imagery that words create, and I’ve always been intrigued by word choice. What I mean by that is, there are multiple words that one can use to describe or paint a picture. I’m interested in the process and thinking one goes through when deciding a specific word is the right word that conveys what they’re trying to say.

What is your favorite exercise and why?

I love squats. I really like any leg exercise because that’s when I feel the strongest (kettlebell squats, trap bar squats, deadlifts, TRX jump squats, wall ball).

What is your biggest gym achievement so far?

Chin ups and pull ups are hard, so if I had to pick an achievement it would be one of those.

What inspires and motivates you?

Each week when I come to the gym, I want my effort to be better, stronger or faster than when I was last in the gym. I’m often motivated by my peers who are just pushing through when all I want to do is throw myself on the floor. They inspire me to keep going.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about joining or who has just joined DPT?

Joining DPT is the best thing you can do for yourself. You’ll do things you didn’t think you could do. You’ll start to make gradual lifestyle changes (eating, sleeping, exercising, etc.) and your body will love you for it- that is the reward! I leave the gym sometimes saying, that was hard, but quickly remind myself that it’s supposed to be- no pain no gain! You’re not on the journey alone, you’ll receive so much support and encouragement each step of the way.
