February Client of the Month: Nikla Crane

Congrats to our February Client of the Month at Somerville!

Nikla

What is your hometown?
I was born in Mauritius (small island in the Indian Ocean, near Madagascar, which is part of Africa) but I call Boston my hometown, having lived here for almost 15 years.

What brought you to DPT?
John Pham.

How long have you been training with us?
3+ years

What do you do in the “real world?” (job, family, pets, etc)
I’m a mom of identical twin boys, Benjamin and Oliver – we are a trilingual family and their names are the same in English, French and Italian. I am the Editor-in-Chief of the scientific journal “Cell Metabolism”, which publishes really cool research on exercise amongst other topics. I have 2 stunningly beautiful cats, Mitzy and Whiskey. “Mitzy” means “kitty” in german and is British. Whiskey is a Bostonian; his belly fur is light brown with flecks of gold, like a fine whiskey. I am part of an awesome drinking group with a running problem, the Slumbrew Happy Soles and keep finding myself at road races, without knowing how.

What is one fun fact that most people don’t know about you?
I wanted to be a writer and used to write short stories; I haven’t completely abandoned this dream.

What is your favorite exercise and why?
Besides putting the kettlebells away at the end of the session? Hmmm, I don’t think I have a favorite exercise, I “like/dislike” them all equally.

What is your biggest gym achievement so far?
Slogging through Callie’s pull-up program and getting to do pull-ups. 22 min plank was also pretty tough. Surviving Billy?

What inspires and motivates you?
Everyday people doing the best they can with the cards they have.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about joining or who has just joined DPT?
Try it; don’t argue for your limitations.
