July Client of the Month: Ariel Cohen-Goldberg

Congratulations to our Client of the Month in Somerville: Ariel Cohen-Goldberg!

 

 

  1. What is your hometown? Honolulu, HI

  2. What brought you to DPT? My wife Shira started attending in July 2016 and loved it so much and was seeing such great results that I started going a few months later.

  3. How long have you been training with us? A year and a half.

  4. What do you do in the “real world?” (job, family, pets, etc) I’m an associate professor at Tufts University and I research how the mind processes language. In a nutshell I try to understand the cognitive machinery that allows us to do basic things like speak and read. I’m also very privileged to be able to research the linguistics of American Sign Language.

    Our home is bustling with an almost 7 year-old, an almost 4 year-old, and our grumpy old cat, Lily, all of whom like to talk at the same time. God willing, we’ll be joined by a new baby in late September!

  5. What is one fun fact that most people don’t know about you? I went to the bathroom once with famed director John Waters. He’s totally a chill, unassuming guy who frequents local bars in Baltimore. Next time I’ll say hi!

  6. What is your favorite exercise and why? I really love pushups! They’re simple enough that I can focus on doing them really well and I like that you can challenge yourself with both speed and weight. There’s something so satisfying about cranking out a set with really heavy plates on your back!

  7. What is your biggest gym achievement so far? Coming to the gym regularly for a year and a half, with 7 straight months so far of perfect attendance (12 classes/month).  Before DPT I was never, ever able to get myself to go to the gym more than a handful of days a year. Now I’m excited for each workout!

  8. What inspires and motivates you? I have always been the type of person who would get excited about something, do it a few times, and never continue—even if it was something that I really wanted to be doing. The very fact that exercising regularly is now part of who I am is intensely motivating. I’m doing something I never did before. Beyond that I really love how I look and I love feeling strong. Knowing that showing up to each class—putting one foot in front of the other—is what got me here motivates me to go more!

  9. What would you say to someone who is thinking about joining or who has just joined DPT? DPT is such a friendly and supportive community. The trainers are so knowledgable and kind. It’s Cheers but with burpees!
