Durbrow Performance May 2016 Client of the Month: Laura Duenes

1.What is your hometown?

I was born in Concepción, Chile. But since I moved to Brazil so young, I consider Porto Alegre in Brazil my hometown.

2. What brought you to DPT?

The big 4.0. Birthday brought me in. I have always being an active person, practicing sports and dancing, but after many moves and changes, I felt we forgot to take a better care of ourselves. Gabriel and I felt that it was time for a change again and to challenge our bodies as we mature together into our lives.

3. How long have you been training with us?

It’s being 3 years since we joined the DPT family.

4. What do you do in the “real world” (job, family, pets, etc)

I am an architect, work for an amazing architectural and design firm in Boston. Love my job, have being working since I am 18 years old. Had the opportunity to work in Brazil then moved to Italy, where we lived and worked for 2 years, then work moved us to Boston 9 years ago. I have family in Chile, Brazil and Italy. And let me tell you, it is very hard to live far away from family. I have 2 adopted cats, Luna and Biscocho, they have being with us for about 3 months now. Cats are part of my life, can’t leave without those creatures.

5. What is one fun fact that most people don’t know about you?

I have 3 passports…but please don’t let Trump know about it…

6. What is your favorite exercise and why?

I like kettle-bell swings as they a very challenging for me. It took me a while to get the right moves but once in a while if I am not focused or paying attention on my moves they still kick my ass. I feel like they make me work so many different muscles, it is incredible.

7. What is your biggest gym achievement so far?

I have so many achievements, 3 years of regular training, a healthier diet, about 7% of fat loss and the gain of many muscles I didn’t know I had it, all the weights lifts, push-ups, hand stands, TRX rows…the list goes on and on. But I still have work on my chin-ups and pull-ups. Don’t tell Emily please !

8. What inspires and motivates you?

Getting better every training motivates me, the feeling of accomplishment and a healthier life inspire me to keep going, it took me back 20 years. All that gave me much more energy for all the other things I have go in on, it made me stronger, sharper and more resilient in life, dance and work.

9. What would you say to someone who is thinking about joining or who has just joined DPT?

Trust yourself, our bodies can do much more then what we think. Trust the process, it gets easier until it gets more difficult again…but don’t give up !
