December Client of the Month: Jessica Alter

FullSizeR 19

Congratulations to our Client of the Month in Somerville: Jessica Alter!

1.     What is your hometown?

Miami, FL

2.     What brought you to DPT?

I really struggled with getting into a regular exercise routine after I had a baby. I kept hearing about DPT online (in my feeds, on the moms’ group pages, etc.). Then my friend Lisa Halloran joined and she loved it. She also looked amazing, so I was convinced to give it a try.

3.     How long have you been training with us?

Since May of 2017

4.     What do you do in the “real world?” (job, family, pets, etc)

When I’m not working out at DPT at 6am, I teach Middle School Math and Special Education. I’ve been teaching middle school for 11 years and I actually love that crazy age. My wife and I live in Winter Hill with our almost three-year-old son, who is teaching me all about other crazy ages.

I am the Co-Chair of the Somerville Commission for Women.  In this role, I get to work with people across the City of Somerville to provide education, create programming, and promote policies that improve the lives of the women of Somerville.  It has been an incredibly rewarding experience and if anyone is interested in working with the Commission, they should talk to me!

5.     What is one fun fact that most people don’t know about you?

I have my MBA and in my pre-teaching life I worked at Stop & Shop analyzing customer data from loyalty cards.  You can pretty much learn everything about a person from their grocery shopping habits.

6.     What is your favorite exercise and why?

Push-ups!  They make me feel so strong and badass.

7.     What is your biggest gym achievement so far?

Being able to do pull-ups and chin-ups unassisted.  I never thought I’d be able to do it.

8.     What inspires and motivates you?

I am inspired by all of the kickass people around me at DPT.  Going to the gym with such an incredible group of supportive and friendly people is the best motivator.  When the alarm goes off at 5:20am, knowing that you’re going to see your friends to start your day makes getting up easier. This includes the coaches too, who really seem to care how each person is doing and who will push you to work harder when it’s needed.

9.     What would you say to someone who is thinking about joining or who has just joined DPT?

Well, if they haven’t joined, “DO IT!”

If they have just started, my advice is to just keep showing up.  There will be days when you feel like you can do anything in your workout, and there will be days when you feel like you are just grinding it out to get through it.  The more you show up, the more “I can do anything” days you’ll have, so stick with it.
