On-the-Go Healthy Lunches and Snacks

A Nutrition and Training post for busy individuals

Today I wanted to hook you up with a couple of really healthy, really fast lunch ideas.

I was talking to a client about how sometimes you just can’t sit down and eat lunch. A salad with chicken is not always feasible if you’re someone who’s in the field at their job or you’re running from meeting to meeting. Even if you’re on a conference call you don’t want to be shoving lettuce into your mouth as you’re trying to sound professional.

You want to keep eating healthy though, right?

Sandwiches are often convenient and portable but they are nutrition killers.

The thing to remember is that lunch doesn’t always have to be a sit-down kinda thing.

A lot of times I throw together kind of a mish-mash (is that a word that makes sense to anyone else besides me?) of stuff just because I don’t want to do a lot of prep work.

Here are some things you can easily pack on-the-go and still get great nutritional value.

1. 2 hard boiled eggs, 1 cup of blueberries, sliced red peppers, sliced turkey or chicken breast (roast the bird over the weekend and cut it up into servings for the week)

2. 1 cup of non-fat cottage cheese mixed with 1/2 cup of chocolate protein powder (sounds weird but it’s good), sliced veggies, 1 cup of berries

3. 2 hard boiled eggs, sliced veggies, 1 cup of berries, 1 Quest Bar

*Quest Protein Bars are by far my favorite bars. They are actually low carb, lots of protein and fiber and they taste great. My favorites are the Chocolate/Peanut Butter and the Cinnamon Roll. You can order these directly on the site or on Amazon.

I just got Amazon Prime so the 2 day free shipping is pretty sweet 🙂

4. Blend up a smoothie in the morning and pack it with you in a cooler. 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk, handful of your choice of frozen berries, handful of spinach, 1 scoop of whey protein powder (chocolate or vanilla), 1 tablespoon of almond butter

Give these healthy alternatives a try and remember to plan ahead for your busy days. Pack your food for the day and that will help you stay away from the killers like sandwiches, vending machine snacks and bagels.
