Welcome back to our Spotlight Sunday. I know it’s been a few weeks since I posted but I’ve got a great one for you today. Whitney has been training at Durbrow Performance since April 2012 and her transformation has been truly amazing. She came into the gym a little nervous and tentative about certain exercises which is totally common for a new person. The remarkable thing was that that didn’t last long at all. Within just a few weeks Whitney was challenging herself to get better every session and started pushing everyone in the group to get better as well. She has become a great leader in our 6pm sessions and continually gets better every workout and never hesitates to grab the big weights 🙂

I decided to join Durbrow Performance in April when I looked in the mirror and realized I was the heaviest I had ever been in my life.

I have never been an athletic person or someone who frequented the gym. For most of my life the extent of my daily exercise was walking to class. But since I have always had a pretty small frame I never felt the need to go to the gym.

Two years ago I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. During treatment I managed to maintain my weight but the whole thing was very rough and took quite a toll on my body. I emerged victorious and feeling great.

What wasn’t great was the fact that a few months after my treatment ended I had gained 15 pounds and found myself with no energy for anything other than work, sleep, eat and watch TV.

After a year went by I decided enough was enough and I joined a gym for the first time. I went a few times a week, pretty much using only the treadmill, and I had high hopes that I would get my body back in no time… well… I didn’t.

6 months later I had only lost 3 pounds and that is when I gave up. I went back to doing nothing and slowly gained another 5 pounds. Finally I decided I needed something different and that is when I found Callie and Durbrow Performance Training.

My first two weeks with Callie totally kicked my butt! I could barely do a push up and was lifting only the smallest weights. I saw people doing pushups with chains and I thought to myself, “wow I will never be able to do that.” I was wrong.

Very quickly I noticed myself getting stronger, being able to do more and push myself harder. I actually enjoy and look forward to these workouts! Something I never thought was possible.

I have lost inches and gained muscle and I feel so much better about myself. I love being able to swing heavier kettle bells than I ever thought possible and I am a pushup master. Bring it on!

My focus now is on being strong and healthy, not just on being thin. I truly feel proud of myself and that is probably the most important gift that Durbrow Performance has given me.
