Are You Making the Time To Exercise?

Hey, Callie Durbrow back at you today with a really quick post about making time to exercise and train. I’ll tell you this really simply because that’s what it is. Simple.

You MUST make time to work on your body. If you don’t you will end up like 50% of America which is overweight or obese. Maybe you are already there and you want to change that- that’s awesome for you!

I don’t make excuses about this because in your head I know you already have lots of them. I don’t have time. I can’t work out early in the morning. I work too late, I can’t go to the gym after because I’m tired. I tried working out at home but I got bored. I can’t afford it. I need to try and get in shape before I start working with a trainer (yeah this is a common one!). I’m afraid to fail.

It’s human nature to over think everything. You will find any excuse if you look hard enough. The only way to succeed is to literally put one foot in front of the other and do it. If you mess up or trip up along the way, that’s okay.

I did this with my business when I first started. I was working for a gym and earning a really comfortable living, getting health insurance, had great clients and enjoyed my overall existence. But something was digging at me and I just couldn’t shut it up. Deep down I knew that it was time to change and start working for myself, in my own place and with my own clients.

I was scared shit-less. I didn’t have any clue how to go about this so I hired the most amazing fitness business coach and he literally led me step by step on how to do it. I did everything that he said and even when I was scared, I just though “Whats the worst that could happen?” and I went out and did it. Let me tell you, nothing bad happened at all!

Along the way I thought of different excuses for this or that because that’s a totally normal tactic for us to save ourselves from something scary.

But enough about me, this is about you and creating time for your own body and getting yourself in shape. So my take-home advice today is acknowledge that this is a scary thing but don’t let fear get in the way of your ultimate health and dream for yourself.

Sit back and say, what’s the worst that could happen? If I sign up with the trainer and the exercises are hard, I’ll just get better next week.

If the nutrition plan is kinda scary and I’m afraid to give up my favorite food I’ll just make small changes each week and then I’m there.

Trust me, it’s tough but you CAN do it.

Making time to train and get in shape….

1. Literally schedule it out. Write it in your calendar if you’re like me and still carry around a day planner. Or put it in your phone schedule or Blackberry. If it’s on the calendar it will get done, just like a meeting or a doctors appointment.

2. Fit it in when you can. If you work late, get to the gym in the morning where there are no distractions. If you have to squeeze in 30 minutes during your lunch hour, plan it out and do it.

3. Say “No.” Don’t let others get in the way of your dreams and your successes. If you have a 5pm training session then do not let your friends talk you into drinks after work. Take care of your body and people around you will understand and respect you for it.

4. Have fun with it. Training and exercise is tough but it can be fun. All of our clients truly enjoy the experience because they are training with others in a fun group setting. Who likes going to the gym alone and doing boring cardio? If you want zero results and to get bored and quit, do that 🙂

So, acknowledge the fear, acknowledge the excuses but immediately dismiss them and always ask yourself “What’s the worst that could happen?”

Leave me a quick comment below about what your most common excuse or self-defeating thought is. I guarantee you’re not the only one…..
